The main part of the life of Udo Zimmermann is situated in Dresden, East Germany. He was born in Dresden under the Communist regime, in 1954 at the age of 11 till 1962 he sang in the famous boys' choir in Dresden, he studied music in Dresden from 1962 till 1968, in 1970, at the age of 26, he worked for Dresden's State Opera and in 1978, at the age of 34, he was appointed professor at the Dresden Music School. In 1986, at the age of 42, he founded the Dresden Center for Contemporary Music.
Living through the unification of Germany in 1990 Zimmermann became the artistic director of the Leipzig Opera House from 1990 to 2001. |
