Opéra lyrique
French - Late 18th and 19th century
Literally, 'lyric opera'. Less grandiose than grand opéra, but without the spoken dialogue of opéra comique. (Term applied more to the genre as a whole than individual operas.). Also referred to as Conte lyrique, Episode lyrique, Pièce lyrique.
