Opéra-ballet
French - Late 17th and 18th century
Lighter version of tragédie en musique with more dance music and with plots that are not necessarily derived from Classical mythology.
Usually with a prologue and a number of self-contained acts (called entrées), following a theme.
Ballet héroïque (Heroic ballet) is a type of opéra-ballet featuring the heroic and exotic, popular themes in the 18th century.
Pastorale héroïque is a type of ballet héroïque, usually in three acts with an allegorical prologue, that typically drew on classical themes associated with pastoral poetry.
